Privatization Essays - Market Structure, Monopoly, Privatization

Privatization Privatization What is Privatization? Privatization is the process of transferring productive operations and assets from the public sector to the private sector. Broadly defined in this fashion, privatization is much more than selling an enterprise to the highest bidder, as it includes contracting out, leasing, private sector financing of infrastructure projects, liquidation, mass privatization, etc. My testimony will argue that there is no single best approach to privatization; the appropriate privatization path depends on the goals that the government is seeking to attain, the individual circumstances facing the enterprise and the economic and political context of the country. It should be noted that privatization is fundamentally a political process as well as a commercial and economic process. Privatization changes the distribution of power within a society, as it diminishes control of the economy by the state and government- appointed managers. Workers often feel threatened by the potential changes inherent in privatization, although employees frequently benefit from the process. As a result, public support is a major consideration in any privatization program and many of the choices made in designing and implementing transactions reflect the need for such support. Two consequences flow from this factor. 1) choices of approaches are sometimes altered due to political considerations, meaning that equity must be promoted in the privatization strategy, and 2) program implementation must be objective and fair to avoid adverse publicity. What are the goals of privatization? Many goals are often pursued through privatization programs. These goals often fall along two principal dimensions: 1) broad social or macro economic goals, and 2) enterprise specific or macro economic goals. Macro economic goals are numerous. Fundamentally, privatization is advocated as a means to reduce the governments role in the economy, partly as a philosophical matter (as in the UK) but principally because governments have performed badly in that role. Many countries can attribute substantial portions of their external debt to liabilities of state-owned enterprises and significant portions of government budgets are devoted to paying subsidies or otherwise assisting loss-making State-owned enterprises. Government's objectives in these situations are often simply to extricate themselves from these financial commitments, and focus scarce

Advanced Concepts In Mental Health Psychiatric Nursing Social Work Essay Essays

Advanced Concepts In Mental Health Psychiatric Nursing Social Work Essay Essays Advanced Concepts In Mental Health Psychiatric Nursing Social Work Essay Essay Advanced Concepts In Mental Health Psychiatric Nursing Social Work Essay Essay The scenario on which I am traveling to develop my ideas and copy my feeling of a 36 old ages old female patient admitted in psychiatric infirmary with the diagnosing of obsessional compulsive upset and temper fluctuations. On conversation, patient verbalized that she belongs to well established household. Further, I observed that she wanted to concentrate on her life but due to deficiency of trust relationship with other people and staff, she was non acquiring socialize. Though, the patient has penetration of her disease but due to miss of household and wellness attention professional support, patient develops frequent aggressive behaviour. In add-on, patient verbalized that I do nt hold parents alive and my brothers and sisters do nt desire me to populate with them due to mental unwellness which I have . Therefore, the construct function of support has been identified. Families play a really of import function because it shapes the quality of our lives. Family dealingss are the earliest and most abiding societal relationships but many persons are enduring jobs from their household or support system. If I connect it with my patient s scenario so it proves that if there was no support from household or wellness attention professionals and it would take to emotional, mental and/or behavioural wellness issues. Families of the mentally sick patient drama a important function in handling the symptoms. Therefore, The Family Involvement Center ( 2009 ) Believes that all kids, young person, and households aˆÂ ¦ mental, emotional, and/or behavioural wellness issues .A When households are strengthened, empowered, and connected to their community, they will take the lead in bettering the quality of their lives. Harmonizing to Building Awareness Reducing Risks: World Mental Health Day ( 2006 ) Approximately 450 million peopleaˆÂ ¦ steadily lifting . Due to unawareness and deficiency of effectual cognition about mental unwellness creates negative impact on patient s lives. Ultimately, this would stop up with acknowledging their patients in some psychiatric infirmary or refuge. Therefore my purpose of composing this paper is to depict the demands of support system to their mentally ill patients with self-asserting intervention and to analyse the relationship of demands to these implicit in factors. Significance of the job in Pakistani context: Pakistan is one of the development states where lupus erythematosus work has been done in the field of psychopathology due to which societies are still mortifying the mental unwellness. Families have really less exposure related to mental unwellness. Apart from that, there is really less construct of the in service instruction Sessionss for the professionals and household, due to which they still showed the bemused thin behaviour from the societies. Another of import ground for the negative attitude seen in the Pakistani context is the work overload. Presently it has been estimated that entire population of the state is over 169 million and in such a immense population merely 300 head-shrinkers, 125 psychiatric nurses, 480 mental attention psychologists and 600 mental wellness attention societal worker are at that place and about 0.4 % of the entire wellness attention budget has been allotted for the mental wellness services in Pakistan Consequently, by this figure one can conceive o f that how much work burden is at that place on the psychiatric professional due to which they besides feel defeated and displaced their choler and defeat on the patient and their households. In order to minimise mentally sick patient in our community, we need to work on assorted facets that include: function of household operation in the attention of mentally sick patients, mental wellness professional support in households with a member enduring from mental unwellness and enhance mental wellness protagonism that will advance human demands and rights and cut down the stigma and favoritism for mentally sick patient. Literature reappraisal: As in this scenario, I have discussed that patient has proper penetration and demand to retrieve from her mental unwellness but due to miss of support, she was unable to retrieve and go aggressive. At that clip, I discovered that how function of household operation is of import in the attention of mentally sick patients. Harmonizing to Drapalski. L. A. , A ; et Al ( 2009 ) There is extended aˆÂ ¦ and other serious mental unwellnesss . In this article it further explicate that engagement in intensive household services, such as household psychoeducation ( FPE ) , has been associated with important decreases in relapse/ rehospitalization rates, better employment rates and societal operation, greater hope and authorization among mentally sick patient. It would diminish household hurt and load, which would take to better household working overall. Second, with the aid of household support, the function of mental wellness professional support in households with a member agony from terrible mental unwellness is besides really of import. Harmonizing to Gavois. H. , A ; et Al ( 2006 ) In this article writers explain curative theoretical account of mental wellness professional support had two nucleus classs: the household members procedure from crisis to recovery and their interaction with the mental wellness professional about mental health/illness and day-to-day life of the individual with terrible mental unwellness. Interaction based on ongoing contact between mental wellness professional and household members influenced the household members procedure from crisis towards recovery. Four mental wellness professional schemes: being present, hearing, sharing and authorising, met the household members demands of support in the different phases of the crisis. These four schemes would assist mental wellness professional and househ old members includes co-ordination, unfastened communicating and security in day-to-day life for the individual with terrible mental unwellness. Finally, this theoretical account has a holistic attack and can be used as an overall usher for mental wellness professional support in clinical attention of households of individuals with terrible mental unwellness. Last but non the least, enhance mental wellness protagonism that will advance human demands rights and cut down the stigma and favoritism for mentally sick patient. Now, if I look from Pakistani context the effect of the negative attitude is that patient and their household member might experience insulted and one time they discharged. Harmonizing to Naeem. F. , A ; et Al ( 2006 ) stigmatisation and negative attitude aˆÂ ¦ of the policy on a national degree ( p.46 ) . The mental wellness policy was foremost formulated in 1997 which addressed issues of protagonism, publicity, bar, intervention, rehabilitation and intersectoral coaction. Harmonizing to Gadit. M. A. , ( 2007 ) It envisaged developing primary attention suppliers, to set up resource centres But despite a tall claim has been made in the state profile study produced by W.H.O, but the inquiry remains there does mental wellness policy in Pakistan exist? . The definite intent of the mental wellness professional is t o advance the image, heighten their ego regard and upgrade their image in the society instead than to undervalue mentally sick patient by demoing the negative attitude which the society is besides making. Schemes to cover with function of support in mental unwellness: Unfortunately Pakistan is the state where less work has been done in the field of psychopathology. Although there is a mental wellness statute law been develop in 2001 but there is a demand to reassess it, in order protect the human rights to set up the community based mental wellness services and to advance the mental wellness literacy which can assist to destigmatize the mental unwellness from the society and patient can hold a positive attitude from the society and from mental wellness professional. Further, there is besides a demand to explicate the mental wellness policies at the national and hospital degree so deliver the same competent and positive attention which the physically sick patient are having. Additionally, there is besides a demand to advance a mental wellness instruction and in- service Sessionss and therapies for the households, group, single and institutional degree helps to go on instruction and cognition in mental wellness publicity. Harmonizing to Naeem. F. , A ; et Al ( 2006 ) developing states contribute merely approximately 6 % of articles to taking psychiatric diaries ( p.46 ) therefore at the governmental degree there is a demand to ease the researches so we can supply better intervention and intercessions. Media is the one resource which has ever a strong influence on the societies so there must be some experts ( head-shrinker, psychologist or nurses ) who can present the healthy treatment on the telecasting which can upgrade the position of mentall y sick patient and can give the consciousness to the societies and promote household so that they can non go forth their mentally ill patients in psychiatric infirmaries or refuges. It has been seen in the state that there is a tendency to observe the yearss like female parents twenty-four hours etcaˆÂ ¦ but non any importance given to the mental wellness twenty-four hours at the national degree hence to advance the metal consciousness there is a demand to observe this twenty-four hours besides. The people who are presenting attention to the patient besides need some healthy ways so there must be some net working where they can portion their defeat and choler. Above wholly, as in my scenario my patient would wish to make some kind of work or occupation in the infirmary or outside the infirmary. The of import thing my patient wants to retrieve and procure her hereafter but does nt hold their household support. Besides this planning with the aid of authorities and infirmary support, we need to educate for life accomplishment developing plans. Hence guidance, group therapy, twenty-four hours attention activities and occupational activities besides have a posit ive impact on patient behaviours, which I am able to step in in my clinical rotary motion. Promoting early designation of mental unwellness and community based entree to care Procedure of planning, implementing and measuring the schemes Equally far as the procedure of planning, and execution is concern I planned it in a manner that it can profit to the patient and the mental wellness professional as good. Continue instruction session will non merely assist the nursing staff to advance their instruction but by larning all these they can present the better attention to the patient. Subsequently, for this intent the communicating techniques would assist mental wellness attention professional trade efficaciously if they adopt the right curative communicating techniques. Consequently, I educate patient how she would affect herself in activities like assisting staff in doing filing and prosecute herself in activities like cleansing room, listening music and talk with other patients and staff to portion feelings to construct trust relationship. My patient gets aggressive so I taught deep external respiration and relaxation techniques, ways to cut down choler and how to keep interpersonal relationship. In order to heighten patient s public presentation degree, assessment on day-to-day footing from wellness attention professionals play a major function in maintaining the motive for work. Furthermore, I discussed with higher direction to develop some inns or supply occupations to mentally ill patient who truly want to acquire back in their life with positive attitude. For that grasp from wellness attention professionals are really necessary to convey back patient in to their original life. Learning from paper I have learnt from the paper that it should include in the responsibility of the wellness attention professional and household to assist mentally sick patient and cut down the stigma at the single household, social and national degree. It was my bias that people who admitted in the psychiatric infirmaries are perpetrator they would hold been done something incorrect with their household that s the ground they are off from their place. But I learn that it s one of the mental upsets, which we need to understand and assist patient consequently in retrieving their unwellness. The schemes which I mentioned will traveling to assist the patient and state and it will besides traveling to assist the population to dishonor them from stigma and heighten the mental wellness publicity and consciousness at primary, secondary and third degree. Summarize and Conclusion To reason the paper, function of support is the technique which gives rise to mental unwellness. As a psychiatric nurse there will be greater demand to advance consciousness in an person, household, communities and states on ways to develop some inns or supply occupations to mentally ill patient who truly want to acquire back in their life with positive attitude. Once the people will show adaptative response to their unwellness so might be the load of mental unwellness will worsen. Word count: 2000

English - American Parenting Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

English - American Parenting - Essay Example Parenting techniques and practices vary on the basis of religion, economy, culture, geography and technology. There are many factors that shape the parenting practices of a particular society. Parenting must be given an absolute meaning and purpose because children are the future of this world and their behavior should reflect their abilities to create a better world. Today, getting married and having children is nothing more than a custom which is not the true purpose of having a family. Parents must first understand why having children is important to them and whether they will be able to raise their children well. American way of parenting has been criticized time and again and an average individual might even agree to this criticism since the exposure of American family life that this individual may have had would point to very unhealthy and poor parenting practices. That is why shopping and junk food have become the symbols of western teenage life. Symbols represent a lot of val ues for families. For Chua, a violin represented eastern family values. â€Å"In our household, the violin had become a symbol. For me it symbolized excellence, refinement and depth – the opposite of shopping malls, mega-sized Cokes, teenage clothes and crass consumerism.† (Chua 207) Human beings evolve to survive. Their lifestyles are in a state of constant flux. Parents are familiar with their drawbacks and they wish to see such drawbacks absent in their children however, what they need to understand is how these drawbacks originated within them in the first place. Understanding the child’s psychology is crucial to practice ideal parenting. Elinor Ochs conducted a study in which she observed the life of thirty two middle-class families of Los Angeles. Her findings show that children of the subject families did not perform household obligations on a regular basis unless instructed otherwise. â€Å"In one fairly typical encounter, a father asked his eight-year- old son five times to please go take a bath or a shower. After the fifth plea went unheeded, the father picked the boy up and carried him into the bathroom. A few minutes later, the kid, still unwashed, wandered into another room to play a video game† (Kolbert, 2012). In another encounter an eight year old girl ordered her father to bring her silverware even though she knew exactly where the silverware was kept. Another boy named Ben could not put his sneakers on because their laces were ties and he had to ask for his father’s help since he did not know how to untie them. Such behavior of children is fairly common among the American families. â€Å"According to one poll, commissioned by Time and CNN, two-thirds of American parents think that their children are spoiled† (Kolbert, 2012). This behavior of children has certain number of reasons attached to it; poor parenting methods being the primary one. It is not just the fact that the American children have been b ombarded with variety of material objects such as toys, clothes, video games, cell phones, laptops, iPads, IPhones, computer, television, PlayStation and cameras to fill their lives with but also the fact that parents have lost authority over their children. Nowadays parents require their children’

Empires Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Empires - Assignment Example Without delving into the fact that the United States has a representative government, devoid of an emperor or empress, it should also be noticed that even though the United States has a few territorial holdings around the globe, these are negligible with regards to the overall population that they hold and/or the geographic importance that they denote. As such, it will be the express function of this brief analysis to present the rationale for why the United States, even though it oftentimes behaves as a traditional empire, does not fit this definition and must therefore be regarded as another entity entirely. Firstly, it must be understood that the United States within the current era and the United States over the past 120 years is quite a different issue entirely. One could easily argue that after the conclusion of the Spanish-American war, the United States was firmly in a position in which it could express a degree of Imperial control over the populations of distant places such as Cuba, the Philippines, Guam, and various other holdings throughout the Caribbean. Interestingly, the United States soon divested themselves of these territories and only held on to a few scant islands within the Pacific and Puerto Rico. Further, with successful engagement in victory within the first and second world wars, the United States once again was faced with an option of retaining the territory that it had gained or allowing for a type of â€Å"new empire† to be evidenced. It is at this juncture that it should be understood that even though the United States is not ascribe to a traditional und erstanding of what â€Å"empire† necessarily at first, it most certainly has redefined the power dynamic and created a situation in which economic empire is a reality through which the United States has come to control commerce on a global level. For instance, many scholars have viewed the situation within Japan as key evidence with regards to the way in which the

Cardiovascular, Respiratory and Gastrointestinal System

Cardiovascular, Respiratory and Gastrointestinal System Emily Joll Part 1- Explain the anatomy of the cardiovascular system and the role played by each of the major parts. (Word Count 400) The cardiovascular system is made up of specialized structures allowing it to effectively carry out its role of transporting blood and nutrients around the body and removing toxins. The cardiovascular system is a closed double circulation system consisting of the major structures of the heart and a network of blood vessels. The heart is structured into two sides which is then divided into two chambers, resulting in a total of four chambers. The system is known as a double circulatory system as the right half of the heart pumps blood to the lungs, becoming oxygen enriched, and back to the heart, known as pulmonary circulation (DLC Topic 1, 2014). The left half pumps the oxygen enriched blood around the body and then back to the heart, known as systemic circulation (DLC Topic 1, 2014). The top chambers of the heart are called atria, and the lower chambers ventricles. The atria are designed to receive blood from the body and pump it into the ventricles. This is a short distance for the blood to travel so the atria only lightly pump aiding the efficiency of the ventricles. This low level of action required results in the muscle walls of the atria are thinner than that of the ventricles. The atria and ventricle on each side are connected by atrioventricular valves. These valves prevent back-flow of blood int o the atria from the ventricles aiding the efficiency of the pumping action. When the ventricles contract the blood within them is pumped out of the heart to the body through the aorta on the left side, and pulmonary artery on the right. The arteries have very thick elasticated walls able to withstand the pressure exerted on them from the pumping action of the ventricles. Arteries pulse to aid the pumping action of the heart and movement of blood around the body. From the arteries the blood continues to move through a network of blood vessels, delivering oxygenated blood to the cells and removing toxins. Veins carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart. The pressure is less in the veins as the blood has travelled a long way since it was originally pumped. This results in the walls of veins being thinner. To aid the movement of blood back to the heart due to the lowered pressed, veins have values in them to prevent back-flow of blood. Capillaries are the small blood vessels that link the veins and arteries, and carry the oxygen and nutrients to the cells. The walls of capillaries are very thin to allow for the actual exchange of these gases and nutrients to take place completing the actual role of the cardiac cycle. (Word Count 400) Oxygen reaching cells is vital to the life of an organism and is a complicated process involving the respiratory system and cardiovascular system working together. Working on a negative feedback loop, sensors in the carotid artery monitor the pH level of blood. Toxins that are produced by the body through energy use and respiration cause a build up of these in the bloodstream, which can be removed through exhalation. The medulla oblongata in the brain stem controls involuntary inhalation and exhalation of air and will increase or decrease the respiratory rate as necessary to regulate the pH level of the blood (DLC Topic 2, 2014). When signalled for inhalation to occur the diaphragm and the intercostal muscles between the ribs contract, increasing the volume of the chest and thoracic cavity, so the lungs and alveoli can expand. This decreases the pressure inside the chest and causes inhalation. Air enters the upper respiratory tract through either the nose or mouth, being filtered and warmed in the process, and is drawn down into the lower respiratory tract. Once the air reaches the alveoli gaseous exchange takes place. The alveoli walls are a s ingle cell thick and surrounded by a network of capillaries to allow the process to take place rapidly. The concentration of oxygen in the alveoli is greater than that in the blood in the capillaries so the oxygen moves with the concentration gradient by diffusion to increase the oxygen in the blood plasma in the capillaries. Haemoglobin in the red blood cells in the capillaries absorb the oxygen forming oxyhaemoglobin. The oxyhaemoglobin then moves through the bloodstream due to the action of the cardiovascular system. Blood is pumped through the pulmonary vein into the left side of the heart, moving through the atria and ventricle to the aorta. The aorta is the main artery from the heart taking oxygenated blood out to the blood vessels of the body. This blood is pumped through the other arteries, veins and capillaries of the cardiovascular system. Once in the capillaries oxygen and nutrients are transferred to the cells through diffusion. Through this process waste products from c ells are also transferred back into the blood stream, e.g. carbon dioxide. The deoxygenated haemoglobin and the waste products then travel back through the blood stream to the heart on the right side. Once at the heart it is pumped back to the lungs where the concentration gradient of the products are uneven and are equalised through diffusion once more. The haemoglobin becomes oxyhaemoglobin, and the waste products e.g. carbon dioxide are diffused into the lower respiratory tract and expelled from the body through exhalation and the process repeats itself. (2006) Ross and Wilson Anatomy and Physiology in Health and Illness- The Musculoskeletal System, 10th edition, Edinburgh: Churchill Livingstone TAQ 3 (AC 3.2) Using examples give a short account of the role of enzymes within the process of digestion. (Word Count 300) As soon as food enters the mouth the role of enzymes in the chemical digestion of food begins. As well as saliva, the saliva glands in the mouth release the enzyme amylase beginning the process. Here immediately the chemical breakdown of carbohydrates starts. Once the food bolus formed in the mouth is swallowed and reaches the stomach further chemical digestion occurs. The lining of the stomach walls contain several cells with secrete chemicals that enable digestion. Many of the enzymes released are highly corrosive so work together to protect the stomach itself whilst continuing chemical digestion and destruction of microbes found in food. Microbes, which carry disease are killed by the action of the enzyme hydrochloric acid, released by parietal cells. This hydrochloric acid, activates an inactive enzyme in the stomach, pepsinogen, resulting in pepsin. This is the resulting enzyme which enables the breakdown of proteins to amino acids. Once digestion has taken place in the stomach the result is a liquid known as chyme which is secreted into the small intestine. Within the small intestine the brush boarder enzymes are housed amongst the villi and microvilli (DLC Topic 3, 2014). Brush boarder enzymes are a collection of different enzymes which line the small intestine working individually, and together to activate inactive enzymes, to continue the breakdown the different components within the chyme. The enzymes here aid the digestion of fats and of starches into simple sugars. Enzymes play a vital role in the gastrointestinal system as they enable the foods to be broken down into their chemical components which are useful to the body and can be reabsorbed for use or eliminated through waste. How do the three systems discussed function in supporting the cell? Part 1- Cardiovascular system (Word Count 100) The pumping action of the heart and the blood vessels in the cardiovascular system, creates and facilitates a continuous flow of blood products, oxygen and nutrients around the body. This creates a replenishment system, delivering products required by the cells through diffusion in order for them to function efficiently. This system also creates a removal system for toxins and waste products from the cells. These products are removed from the cells back into the bloodstream through the process of diffusion where they can be transported away from the cells for elimination from the body. There is a percentage of oxygen in the air which is diffused into the bloodstream from the alveoli in the lower respiratory tract. The respiratory system not only brings oxygen into the body, the bloodstream and therefore the cells but also provides a pathway for waste gases to be expelled from the body through exhalation, removing toxins from the system that would otherwise overload it and cause cell death. Steroids :: essays research papers

Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Steroids were first developed in the 1930's. The Germans first experimented on dogs and then on their own soldiers in the World War II, as well as used them on their prisoners to help them stay healthy because they suffered from significant malnutrition. Then in the 1950's many Russian and European athletes began to find that steroids were very beneficial to their goals and soon after began dominating the sport of power lifting, crushing previous world records. In the mid 1950's it was proven that testosterone was the reason behind the improved athletic ability by Dr. Ziegler. Soon after he and his labs were producing Dianabol or Methandrostenolone. A few years later, steroids were available on the market. At that time both athletes and doctors were using them alike on a regular basis. On March 1st 1991, the Federal Anabolic Control Act was in effect. This put anabolic steroids on the schedule III of the Controlled Substance Act, making them an illegal substance without a prescription. Today, there are clinics that will prescribe testosterone and HGH to qualified patients. HGH is also known as Human Growth Hormone. Because of this act, the only other way to get steroids is on the black market.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  There are many reasons why people take steroids. Before you look at the side effects of steroids, they seem as a great advancement in medicine. Steroids increase muscle mass, strength, endurance, and recovery rates. They also heighten aggression, improve performance in sports and on the job, increase muscle definition and leanness, and they maintain your appearance while aging. Although steroids help you greatly in muscular development, it has terrible side effects. The major side effects from abusing steroids can include liver tumors and cancer, yellowish pigmentation of skin, tissues, and body fluids, fluid retention, high blood pressure, increases in the bad cholesterol, and decreases in the good cholesterol. Other side effects include kidney tumors, severe acne, and trembling. In addition, there are some gender and age specific side effects.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Men may experience the shrinking of the testicles, reduced sperm count, infertility, baldness, development of breasts, and increased risk for prostate cancer. However woman may experience growth of facial hair, male-pattern baldness, changes in or killing of the menstrual cycle, enlargement of the clitoris, and a deepened voice. Adolescents who use steroids may have their growth halted prematurely through premature skeletal maturation and accelerated puberty changes.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  There have been many reports of steroid users demonstrating violent behavior.

Collapse of Kingfisher Airlines Essay

Kingfisher , Sony and Kodak have one thing in common . i.e. They are finding it difficult to reinvent themselves. They are trying hard to be a phoenix but will they truly rise from the ashes or simply fade away is the real question. Let us take the issue of Kingfisher here. One of India’s most high profile airlines few years back , now in shambles. It is really interesting to ponder that in same market scenario, one of the competitors of Kingfisher is flying high and high. Yes, Indigo Airlines is the most profitable airlines in India. The question is the difference between discipline or grandeur. What makes one company succeed, while another, in the same operating environment, falter? One of the reason is Mr. ( or Dr. in which degree?) Vijay Mallya flamboyant nature. Kingfisher was launched as an all-economy, single-class configuration aircraft with food and entertainment systems. After about a year of operations, the airline suddenly shifted its focus to luxury. When an airline keeps changing its model and takes to random expansion, there is no time for the airline to stabilize. After Kingfisher’s plunge into luxury came its next folly—a merger with Air Deccan, an airline formed by Captain G R Gopinath in 2003. I believe the fall of Kingfisher airlines started the very day when they bought Air Deccan. Capt. Gopinath , the owner of Air Deccan can be termed as shrewd but smart investor who knew when to part with his investment , just at the right time. The all-economy configuration of Air Deccan was rebranded and called Kingfisher Red, which continued to operate as its low-cost wing till recently. Kingfisher ended up spending Rs 550 crore on an airline that had losses of over Rs 550 crore. It is widely believed that Kingfisher merged itself with Air Deccan so that it could classify as an airline with five years of domestic flying in 2008, thus fulfilling requirements to fly international routes. The fact that Jet had meanwhile swallowed Air Sahara didn’t help, fuelling a competitive race to be the biggest airline around. Essentially, jet fuel prices began to sky-rocket and soon touched $150. Then came the 2008 recession that made fundamentals in the airline industry worse, which is when the airline launched its international operations. Some companies just fail to learn—either from the examples that its peers may have set for the industry, or from its own past mistakes. Now, Kingfisher has decided to change its model yet again—discontinuing its Kingfisher Red brand and completely converting its fleet to a dual class, full-service configuration. Kingfisher was gifted to Mr . Sidhartha Mallya by his father on his birthday i.e. a Near Zero experience in running a company and the later CEOs appointed by Mr . Mallya couldn’t bring any significant result too . His over indulgence in petty things like parties and Kingfisher Calendar also lead to inadequacies in his finances. .IPL is also one of the reason for Kingfisher downfall because it is known that many of the money was diverted to IPL from Kingfisher airlines, resulting which they defaulted in Loans and recently became a NPA (non performing asset) to its leading bankers like SBI . The lack of trust was shown recently when Mr Mallya asked the government of India to bail him out. The new minister Mr. Ajit Singh clearly told that the Government will not bail out private airline because Air India is itself in need to bail out. I personally feel that Mr Ajit singh made a good decision because When Kingfisher doesn’t give public anything in return of its profit , then why is it asking for Public hard earned money ( income tax money) to bail him out. The lack of management and top of it the soaring petrol prices, the airport charges added to Kingfishers humiliation. Frequent cancellation of flights , nonpayment to employees, rude staff laid the ground for Kingfishers grave. Kingfisher reputation took a beating when it was known that employees tax were not submitted to government on time since the last three years! Government of India also freezed 40 Kingfisher’s bank account. Latest news is that Kingfisher employees have been not paid three months salary. We all know how we feel when our salary is delayed by a day, imagine what happens to them when they are not getting salary for last three months. How do you expect the employees to keep a smiling face to its customers when they themselves are crying . A company which forgots its employees, is also soon forgotten. A classic example is Kingfisher airlines. Mr Mallya had to sell 49% of his ownership of Force India( F1 car) to Mr Subrato Roy to get kingfisher going ( owner of ailing airline Air Sahara , years back) , but it too failed to save the airlines from tatters. I still have hope from Mr Mallya that he will refrain from over indulgence and concentrate on his fragile business. It’s time he and his son become responsible and start this company from scratch instead of late night parties and IPL and took inspiration from Indigo airlines who proudly claimed themselves as Low cost airline and exceeding the customers delight in every way they can.

Causes and Effects of Industrial Pollution Essays

Causes and Effects of Industrial Pollution Essays Causes and Effects of Industrial Pollution Paper Causes and Effects of Industrial Pollution Paper Essay Topic: Air pollution Cause and Effect Water pollution It is because of this that carbon monoxide is viewed as the least danger to living beings. The largest natural cause of CO is the oxidation of methane in the atmosphere. Methane, CHI, is produced on the surface of earth by the decay of organic matter. (Harrison, 1990) A smaller natural cause is the growth and decay of chlorophyll which is the green pigment in the leaves of plants. Eighty percent of the carbon monoxide that is emitted by humans is by transportation. Because automobiles are the largest source of CO pollution, the highest concentration of this gas is in highly populated/urban areas. The next greatest anthropogenic source is agricultural burning, which accounts for another twelve percent. It has been shown that exposure to high concentrations of carbon monoxide can harm living organisms, but the current concentration in our atmosphere is still low enough so that plants and humans are both at minimal risk. (Harrison, 1990) Hydrocarbons are the second largest category of air pollutants by mass, but they are by far the largest group of pollutants when considering their effect. There are thousands of different hydrocarbon compounds that are comprised solely of hydrogen and carbon. They can be found in a gaseous, liquid or solid states at room temperature. Most hydrocarbons are emitted by the bacterial decomposition of organic material. Methane, CHI, which was mentioned in the formation of carbon monoxide, is the simplest of the hydrocarbons. Petroleum is a complicated mixture of several simple hydrocarbons showing again transportation by motor vehicles is the leading cause of this category being emitted into the air. Their evaporation during the refining of petroleum is also important. (Harpsichord, 1 991) Unlike the previous categories, the hydrocarbons are relatively harmless in their released state. It is in the atmosphere that they undergo chemical reactions and become hazardous. Societal Effects from of Air Pollution People are mostly oblivious to the effects of air pollution. They know its out there and it is a problem but excepting skin cancer, there have been very few deaths with a direct link to air pollution. It is probably because of this that people arent as concerned with air pollution as they should be. Air pollution has always been around, and has actually been on a decline since the sasss (when coal was the major source of energy. It is relatively easy to decrease he amount of pollutants we emit considering each year new laws arise that crack down on the amount of certain substances that can be released into the air, but the harm has already been done, and next to impossible to fix. The ozone layer is the part of the atmosphere that keeps ultraviolet rays from penetrating humans and plants. But because of all the air pollution, various chemicals are slowly destroyin g the ozone layer. Each year the concentration of the ozone decreases by approximately two percent and the ozone layer over the South Pole is already fifty percent of its natural concentration. Ozone depletes (the majority Of which are chlorofluorocarbons Or CUFFS) react with ultraviolet radiation and break down into their component atoms, especially chlorine, bromine and fluoride. These component atoms then go on to steal an oxygen atom from the ozone layer (opposite to the reaction which forms 03), thereby destroying the ozone layer. This loss of protection from UP rays can result in an increase of human skin cancer, damage to various parts of the eyes as well as causing a breakdown of the immune system. (Harpsichord, 1991) With health being such a major issue in our society today, people have become scared by this outbreak of cancer. People know that the ozone layer is slowing depleting and that there is a health risk involved with being in the sun for extended periods of time. But very few people know that there is a connection between this breakdown Of the ozone layer and air pollution. Instead of trying to control pollution emissions they just cut back on their time o utdoors, or wear more sunscreen. Ultraviolet rays can also cause major environmental problems. These rays enter the atmosphere and can kill small aquatic organisms, such as plankton. When these small life forms decompose they release carbon dioxide, CO, another gas which can cause the ozone layer to break down, thus resulting in a continuous cycle. What can we do? Although air pollution has relatively few immediate effects on humans at the present time it is important that we try to reduce the amount of pollutants we emit into the air. As discussed before the biggest cause of air pollution is use of transportation, followed by the combustion of fossil fuels. In the past thirty years many new standards have been passed in the United States which exulted in a dramatic reduction in the gases emitted by automobiles. But even with these new laws air pollution is still on the increase. It is mostly due to the fact that there are more automobiles on the road today. Cars may be more efficient but there are too many of them, which in many ways diminishes their efficiency. One solution to this problem is encouraging people to carpool which would reduce the number of cars on the road and in turn reduce the amount of pollutants. Another solution is to make more laws enforcing more efficient cars. However this would cost car manufactures more money, exulting in more expensive cars which people wouldnt want to buy. So the best solution to reducing the amount of pollutants emitted by automobiles is by encouraging people to carpool. The combustion of fossil fuels is the other leading cause of air pollution. Although the amount of pollutants these factories emit has reduced since the sasss they still release a large quantity of dangerous gases. More standards can be enforced to reduce the emissions of these factories. Nevertheless, as long as we rely on fossil fuels for energy these factories will have to emit some sort of gas. At the moment, nuclear energy appears to be the wave of the future and this type of energy releases a lot less pollutants into the air than the combustion of oil and coal. Although air pollution presents no immediate danger it is important that we try to control the pollutants We emit. Most of the harm has already been done and there are no known ways to fix these problems. It is for this reason that we try our best to help the situation as most as possible. Water Pollution Several different kinds of waste are oxygen consumers. There is a certain concentration of oxygen needed in the worlds oceans to support life. However, when waste is present in the water that is easily broken down by the presence of oxygen, and this lowers the oxygen levels necessary to sustain the natural biota for that water. Radioactive materials escape from ore processing, nuclear power plants and use of nuclear weapons. Just as radioactivity has harmful effects on humans these effects translate to aquatic life and invade water supplies around the world if not properly contained (Singer, 1970) Toxic metals are made up of heavy metals, light metals, and trace metals. Heavy metals have five times the density of water, whereas light metals have less.. Heavy metals are made up of seven basic elements that are found frequently in the Earth in aquatic and terrestrial environments. Trace metals display natural compounds of metal. The latter carry more contaminants than the heavy metals because of their great effects on living organisms. They are transmitted through direct use of mining in ores, in the burning of fossil fuels. The trace elements end up in water systems through atmospheric rain, agricultural run-off, mining wastes and domestic sewage. One the key factors of metal pollution is that they cannot biologically or chemically breakdown in nature. This stability also lets them be carried long distances through air and water. Mercury has shown to be a good example of how contamination of trace metals has severe effects and will be discussed in the next section on effects on society. Synthetic organic pesticides are compounds that include insecticides, fungicides, and other pests that inhibit human conduct. There are chlorophyll acids, archaeopteryxs, cerebrates and chlorinated hydrocarbons. Discussing chlorinated hydrocarbons, the most dominant of these pollutants, is necessary because of their persistence or staying power. They resist breakdown for approximately two years before they disappear. (Singer, 1970 ) Because of the great length of time that is these hydrocarbons can invade areas of the environment they were not meant for and spread into soils, runoffs and water environments. Their toxic effects on living organisms pervade fatty membranes around nerves and disrupt the movement of ions between the fiber. Societal Effects from Water Pollution Societys main concern with water pollution has mostly been realized through our own concern for their drinking water. Contaminants of all kind have been studied for their possible harm on humans, and subsequent coverings led to seeing the effects on other life in water. Water as a carrier of pathogenic organisms that can put health at risk was the primary reason for pollution control. More recently pollution was personalized when Americans saw pictures of seals and other sea life drowning in oil slick from spills, with drastic consequences. Water birds Can often be So covered in Oil slick that they can no longer fly and feathers lose their insulation properties in cool water temperatures. Many surrounding plant life on the shoreline are also coated and vegetation rates decrease. Photosynthesis of plants is also effected below the water, where light intensity is decreased by 90%, ;o meters below the surface because of oil flushing. Long-term affects, although still being studied, are based on the chemical messaging that is adversely effected by oil compounds in the water. Similarly they also might be involved and enter in the marine food chain. (Sager, 1976) These facts helped increase awareness, Inform the public and change policy on oil tanker practices. In this same manner, EDT, decades after its discoverer Paul Mueller won the Nobel Prize for chemistry because of its insecticidal repertories, was shown causing severe damage in water life systems. Nevertheless an abundance of pesticides of all kinds are still used in many areas and often are hard to contain in specific areas. As for metals, Mercury has wrought the largest scare to humans as its toxic effects from our actions have had repercussions. Mercury is used is three major ways by human processing electrical apparatus, color-alkali industry, and paint. Humans are exposed to mercury through production of other elements, the burning of coal, and the accelerated weathering of rocks and soils. Although there are efferent compounds of mercury effecting different aspects of body processes, there are also central breakdowns. Toxic action occurs through the binding of sulfur molecules in enzymes and cell walls that inhibit normal activity and depending on amount paralyzes or kills. All damage in permanent. Humans greatest risk is through food poisoning. This was shown in the Intimate disease where 44 people died and more were paralyzed because of eating contaminated shellfish and other fish. (Sager, 1976) Because of the biological amplification of mercury in aquatic life and in unmans, the methyl mercury wastes from a shoreline plastics factory increased the mercury amount in the fish in great amounts.

Biology controlled experiments Essays

Biology controlled experiments Essays Biology controlled experiments Paper Biology controlled experiments Paper Photosynthesis is the process in which plants manufacture food. The rate of photosynthesis is affected by a number of factors: temperature being one of them.   Other factors include carbon dioxide concentration, light levels, availability of water and nutrients. Temperature can be a limiting factor to the process of photosynthesis.   Increasing temperature twice for example from 100C to 200c could double the rate of photosynthesis.   Increasing temperature increases the rate of photosynthesis since the plant’s enzymes will be working closer to their optimum temperature. Temperature also increases the kinetic energy of molecule in the cells increasing efficiency of making sugars.   Temperature beyond enzyme’s optimum will cause a drop in the rate of photosynthesis.   A greater increase in temperature above the optimum denatures enzymes so plants will not be able to photosynthesize (Factors affecting photosynthesis; A level Biology project: www.neiljohan.com) One of the byproduct of photosynthesis is oxygen. Therefore by monitoring the rate at which a plant is emitting oxygen, a conclusion can be made regarding the plant’s rate of photosynthesis. Question How does Elodea plant’s rate of photosynthesis behave with increase in temperature? Which temperature level is Elodea plant’s rate of photosynthesis optimum? Hypothesis The rate of photosynthesis of Elodea plant increases with increase in temperature until the plant reaches its optimum Prediction If all other factors limiting photosynthesis rate are kept constant, then the rate of photosynthesis will be directly proportional to increase in temperature up to a certain level after which it will start declining. Methodology Temperature is the independent variable of the experiment while the dependent variable is air (oxygen).   All other factors affecting photosynthesis e.g. light levels, availability of water, carbon dioxide level and plant nutrients are kept constant. Materials needed include: photosynthometer, Elodea plant, Beaker of water, lamp, ice, Hot water and thermometer. A piece of elodea plant is cut and put in a beaker of water with the cut end kept up by supporting it with a paper clip.   Temperature of water is varied from time to time by adding hot water to warm it up or ice to cool it down. A thermometer is used to determine the required temperature level. The independent variable (air) is measured by a photosynthometer with a tubing of 1 mm diameter. It measures the volume of air (oxygen) given off by the elodea plant.   The volume of air is measured by pulling the tube and seeing how much air bubble has increased in length using the rule of the tubing. A temperature range of 150c – 300c can be used with two replicates to obtain suitable conclusions.

What did Theodore Roosevelt mean when he said the US should be the Essay

What did Theodore Roosevelt mean when he said the US should be the 'policemen' of the Caribbean - Essay Example He told Germany that the United States would act as the ‘debt collectors’ on their behalf. This meant that the US would collect all the money owed to Germany by the Caribbean islands and give it to them. When Roosevelt said that the US should be the policemen of the Caribbean, he was of the opinion that the United States should do everything in its power to assist the Caribbean in all ways possible. This was inspired by the fact that the Caribbean islands were very close neighbors of the United States (DiNunzio 143). Roosevelt, therefore, felt that it would be easy for the United States to gain full control of the Caribbean. It is clear that Roosevelt wanted to end the political unrest experienced in the Caribbean so as to gain control over its economy. He, therefore, felt that it was necessary for the US to be policemen of the Caribbean so as to eliminate the interference caused by the Europeans in the Caribbean. He felt that the Europeans interfered with the affairs of the Caribbean under the guise of collecting their debts but with the intention of ensuring their presence is felt in the area so that they would eventually take over the region (DiNunzio

Ticketmaster Merges with Live Nation Case Study

Ticketmaster Merges with Live Nation - Case Study Example Ten years ago, the record labels saw a way to increase sales by getting involved with the internet. The goal was to spread the word about music faster than ever before and generate a new outlet for income. This whole idea was based on the customer buying music downloads from the online stores. In order to do that there would have to be encrypted legally authorized music. It was soon to be found out that this was almost an impossible task. It would take many people in full time jobs to manage this, but the damage had already been done. There were then many side businesses built on digital downloads which eroded not only the internet but previous business as well (Waddell, 2009). The idea, then, became consolidation. It was determined that if they consolidated more of the companies it would help them gain in the competition for customers. They were now faced with plunging record and music sales of all kinds. Merging these companies meant becoming more diversified and taking on more than the sale of music. They began to diversify and include management, merchandising, agencies and promotion and all were driven by the economy and the sales of music as the time. However, the decline in music sales continued and many of the large companies as well as some of the mergers were eliminated from the business. Some of those eliminated were companies like Tower Records and Circuit City. Consolidation also became p... Live Nation was picking up merchandise firm signatures and music e-commerce companies like Musictoday. When merchandising was added to Live Nations menu of ticketing, promotion and sponsorship services it was able to strike multirights contracts with such artists as Madonna and Jay-Z (Peoples, 2009). In the beginning of the decade, you could go down to the store and buy a ticket to a venue and you were sold a paper ticket. While you can still buy a ticket this way, chances are when you get there the tickets will be sold out. The day when you can pick up a local ticket for a Sunday evening concert are gone, especially if you want to see some of the hot acts. Tickets are now only made available to the public after VIP tickets are sold to fan clubs etc. This created a online secondary market which has been in great demand by the customer who wants to buy tickets in his own time and does not mind paying for the convenience. Tickets Now has held a large piece of the business of selling tickets after tickets were sold out. Ticketmaster and Live Nation Just about a month before Ticketmaster and Live Nation announced their plans to merge, Live Nation had started its own ticketing company. The reason that Live Nation had decided to control its own ticketing was so it could then control some of the fan club profit available. This opportunity, because of the information it provides, allows for targeting of populations for ticketing sales, even before the tickets are available. This gave them a larger piece of the market. Ticketmaster too has evolving to become a full service company selling tickets and boosting sales of other products. Pricing of tickets has become even more strategic at this point (Waddell, 2009). Live Nation
